‘MASTER OF MONACO’ LITHOGRAPH
AYRTON SENNA TRIBUTE - This Limited Edition lithograph is entitled ‘Master of Monaco’ and was created from Rob’s original oil painting to honor the memory of Ayrton Senna, who died tragically in 1994. Depicted is the gifted Brazilian headed to victory in his final Monaco appearance in 1993, his last year with McLaren and his last full season in Formula 1. Senna’s brilliance behind the wheel was never more obvious than when he was threading the needle through the streets of Monaco in his McLaren F1 car, and his personal record of 6 career victories (in 10 starts) still stands today. Even the now-retired Michael Schumacher, holder of virtually every record in Grand Prix racing, did not eclipse Senns’s win total at Monaco.
Even more incredible is what might have been - in his first year with McLaren, Senna was leading the 1988 Monaco GP and, with a huge lead on the field and only a few laps remaining, was asked to slow down by his team; this broke his concentration and he subsequently crashed out shortly thereafter. Had he gone on to win that race his record with McLaren would have been perfect, with six straight wins from 1988 - 1993! One could then count back to his last Monaco GP for Lotus in 1987 which he won, and that would have made for an astounding 7 victories in succession!
